Believers Who Do Not Live by Grace Fall and Fail.
Yes believers who do not live by the grace of God can fall and fail. There are three principal points I believe that can cause believers who do not live by the grace of God to fall and fail even when they attempt to live righteous life. Although, God has provided escape route to His children as noted in the book of 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” These three areas are vital for the river of grace of God to flow in abundance in the lives of the believers or for the river of grace of God to completely dry up, thereby generating lives full of storms.
THREE AREAS TO ADDRESS THE MATTER.
1. Those who exhibit the art of pride and decide to freely opt-out of the grace of God, believing that they can do things by themselves. These particular believers do not understand the truth of the word that they are saved only by grace of God through faith and not by their own efforts. As the Scripture says, in the book of Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Nobody does anything to earn salvation, it is a gift giving by God and obtainable through faith in believing Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour. The prideful believers do not buy this truth and the consequences of their actions are continuous falling and failing. May God help to change their mindset and redirect their thoughts in the name of Jesus.
2. There are believers who are ignorant of the truth of grace of God and by so doing decide to opt-out to live life by their own efforts. The Bible says in the book of 1 Peter 1:23, “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.” These groups of believers are ignorant of the truth of this Scripture that they are automatically born of the Holy Spirit by the grace of God, for which they can do nothing to add or subtract from their new birth experience. Therefore, their ignorance of the truth, divert their thoughts to doing things differently and wanting to function by their own efforts, leading to continuous falling and failing in life. I pray that the truth of the word of God is made manifest to them in the name of Jesus.
3. There are other believers who lose or fail to keep the grace of God in order to live righteous lifestyle. This is the tricky part of the above point. As believers, we do not lose our eternal life. Once saved, always saved but you lose your grace to live righteous lifestyle except you repent from what caused you to fall. The grace of God is losable and removable when wrongly or inappropriately applied. There are numerous accounts where believers had lost the grace of God upon their lives. When Miriam and Aaron rebelled against Moses, Miriam lost her grace of health and became a leper as noted in the book of Numbers 12:1,9-10, “Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman. So the anger of the LORD was aroused against them, and He departed. And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper.”
Furthermore, according to the word of God, God takes away the grace of acceptance when believers
fail to obey the word of God as noted in the book of 1 Samuel 15:3,9,19,26. “Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD? But Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
Again, Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, lost their grace of life having lied to the Holy Spirit as noted in the book of Acts 5:5, “Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.”
